What makes a city great? Surely these characteristics would be on the list:
• Municipal leadership that has one foot in the present and one in the future. 1910 is no longer possible; meeting the challenges of the 21st century is the imperative.
• Government programs that reflect a dual present/future focus.
• Government that serves and inspires people.
• Citizens who exhibit pride in their community through their actions. Being a citizen is not only about consuming public benefits.
• Humility as a public and private characteristic.
