If you stroll through Norwich city centre there are major attractions that will linger in your memory - and the chances are most of them have been designed by the same man.

Castle Mall, the city’s famous covered market on Gentleman’s Walk and the redevelopment of Colegate are just a few of the magnificent architectural feats achieved by local architect Michael Innes.

And the 77-year-old from Thorpe St Andrew is nowhere near to hanging up his drawing board.

So what turned the son of a Navy Petty Officer from the south coast of England into an award-winning architectural advocate for the city?

“I think the city of Norwich is a wonderful place,” said Mr Innes. “I believe my designs have worked because I live here and therefore have an understanding of the types of things people want. I do not believe anyone from outside of the city could have designed some of these buildings for people without living here.
